Your Voice
The FRIENDS of the Commission on the Status of Women is celebrating its 45th anniversary in October 2020. We are creating an audio keepsake with recorded messages from women and allies that will serve as a time-capsule. The FRIENDS would love to hear your voice talking about what is important to you, how current events have impacted your life, your future hopes, and dreams for women and girls, or what you think makes the FRIENDS of the Commission on the Status of Women uniquely special.
Here's how to record your message:
1) If you are in the US, Canada, or the Caribbean, call 1-800-437-3009.
2) When prompted, enter your Invitation Number: 78589.
3) Record your message after the tone. When finished, you can either hang up or press the # key. If you press the # key, you'll hear options to listen to your recording, accept your recording, or re-record it.
If you live outside of the U.S., Canada or the Caribbean,
or if you prefer to use a voice recorder, or send in a song, please see this link.
Don't forget to say your name (first name only, ok) at the beginning of your recording.*
Tips for Callers
You are about to give an exceptional and personal gift: your voice, your recollection, your thoughts. Whatever you say will be appreciated, but a congratulatory wish is always nice. A heartfelt sentiment is better, and unique messages involve a meaningful memory, thought, or story. Here are some additional tips to keep in mind:
Some General Tips
Finally…
Thank you for participating in this 45th-anniversary project. We want your voices heard and you are a valued member of our community. That's pretty neat! Bask in that knowledge, be yourself, and have fun.

A heartfelt sentiment is better, and unique messages involve a meaningful memory, thought, or story. Here are some additional tips to keep in mind:
- You don't need to limit yourself. Talk as long as you want, and call in as often as you like - up to 30 minutes.
- What you say doesn't have to be earth-shattering. Whatever you say, your voice and comments will gain significance and meaning over time.
- Put yourself in the shoes of women and girls who will open the time-capsule and think about what kind of recording you would like to hear.
Some General Tips
- If you find it easier to talk with notes, jot down the significant points that you want to mention before you call in.
- Spontaneous "I just remembered" calls are nice. Call early and then keep the 1-800-437-3009 and invitation number 78589 close by, and if you think of something else, call in again.
- When you call, if you ever want to start your recording over, just press the # key on your telephone. You will hear the option to re-record your message.
- If you called and left a message, but you later decide that you want to delete it, contact Verna Liza Caba at vernaliza@friendscosw.org or call 415.779.6636.
